Unmanaged switches and hubs represent two different ways to transmit data over the network. While transmitting data through hubs may be slower due to message collision, ether net switches allow to route messages only to intended devices. Both unmanaged switches and hubs are an inexpensive way to build a low-maintenance network environment. As compared to their more costly alternative, managed switches feature a plug-and-play interface and don't include advanced functionality that usually requires more technical knowledge and skills to administer and operate.
